My new car

I sold my US car in Philadelphia just before leaving the country and needed to get a car as soon as possible on arriving in the UK.

As with how so many things will be as I get acclimated to UK and Irish ways of doing things, I was a bit at sea on how to go about buying and insuring a car here.

All I knew for sure was I wanted something small (the roads are quite narrow here and often closed on the sides by hedges and stone walls) and an automatic. I've driven manual on many earlier trips in the UK and Ireland but I've decided it's just too much of a hassle to deal with all the time.

My friend Alex was my savior during the entire process. We looked at Audis, Minis, Toyotas and eventually at a Nissan.

Alex found a 2015 Nissan Micra with only 32,000 miles on Facebook Marketplace just a mile or so away from their home (where I was staying when I first got here).

We went and saw the car and all looked good, so we agreed to buy it.

Learned a good lesson on getting money transferred from the US to someone in the UK. Don't use Paypal. There was quite a delay. Use wise.com instead. It all went through quickly and then it was time to get it insured.

Alex once again came to my rescue, and very quickly I was fully insured and driving on the left side once again.

Here is my new car.

Now I just have to get used to finding it in the car park 😄
